The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

blah. I've got to stop using this journal as an emotional outlet!

Anyway, you can't keep a Richmond woman down, so I'm going to focus on the new work I have and stop whining. Life goes on. I can't keep turning into a quivering sobby pile of custard every time something goes wrong. :thumbsup:

On the lighter side of the news, could they have possibly made it any harder to skin a dA journal? It's like impossible! I've been coding since age 13 and I can't figure this jank out. =p

The first explains the structure of userpages and journals as they were rolling out the new ones earlier this year. The second one, from another person, compares the old and new structures. They might help you out, but I am not totally sure as I haven't tried building something from them yet, which is a better test of the success of instructions. Let me know if you get anywhere :)

Darkwing duck. I've seen rosie done as a last-minute job before (like, by me a few halloweens ago, when I misunderestimated how my layers would affect my rag-curls and had to OMG CHANGE to a scarved, muscly woman instead of a 30s lady-gangster) and it was fantastic, don't get me wrong--but I mean DARKWING DUCK HELLO IT IS SPECIAL AND MARVELOUS.
