The problem with pot is that it is a gateway drug, not to other drugs but into the American prison system which is mismanaged, overcrowded, underfunded and notorious for turning otherwise ordinary people into hardened criminals.

I've been to Amsterdam a couple of times, and the only stoners running wild in the streets are tourists from other countries where soft drugs are still illegal. Percentage-wise, fewer Dutch teenagers use drugs compared to American teenagers - and that's fact not stoner whimsy.

I'm not sure if I could be so daring as to recommend the legalization of all drugs, but really the only way to beat the new onslaught of addictive substances (and I mean everything from oxycontin to Guacamole flavored Doritos - and you can't tell me Frito Lay isn't doing something to make those damn things addicting!) is to honestly educate people to the risks beforehand.

Right now, by being simultaneously too lax and yet too heavy handed, I feel we're doing the worst we could possibly do.

Well, people will do it even if it isint legal, but they should legalise it just well this way you wont get in trouble lol, its a "natural" drug, they spend to much time on illigal use of weed than they do on Coke and heroin, i suggest they stop looking at the juvinial things in life and start doing something thats important, like trying to find solutions to world hunger, and racisim, homosexual rights, and animal abuse, etc

Well... My take on it is I dont think it should be legalized, but not because I'm against it. Hell I have pot in my purse right now... I'm just thinking, if the government legalizes it, they can tax the shit out of it like they do with cigarettes and alcohol. Of course it would be nice not to live in fear of getting caught, but they are most likely going to put an age on it... probably 19 and therefore, it will be illigal for most anyhow.
I just dont think legalization is the answer... lets all get high and not give a shit.

I don't care for weed personally, I think it's a half-ass drug. But I'm all for legalizing it, I don't see why something as prolific and relatively harmless as weed should be illegal.

oh, god yes. just recently, i smoked with my mum for the first time. as long as it doesn't become an obsessive habit, and it's handled like alcohol and cigs, i don't see the problem. a bit every few weeks or months is nice.
