Here be my FAQ. arrrrr. It be in sections.

Thorns

Q. What's all this Thorns business about/When are you going to shut up about Thorns?
A. NEVERRRR. Thorns is my baby. It's an online RPG, the kind you play by posting on a forum.

Q. I want to join Thorns. How do I-
A. Go to the site (thornsbook.com) and it should be fairly self-explanatory. If not, you need to visit the wiki (thornsbook.com/wiki) and click the biiiig "new to the game?" banner. The page it takes you to should explain all.

Q. What are the perks of joining Thorns?
A. You mean OTHER than being part of the ass-kickingest steam-era fantasy RP community of all time? Well, you're instantly part of a giant art trade, you get plugged on my page all the time, and I love you. Deeply. Not to mention all that "fun" we have on the chatroom, like movie nights and group skype calls and non-can RP (fun stuff) and watching cheezopath and MissusHow struggle with their obvious attraction to each other.

Q. I don't want to commit to an RPG, but I'd like to do some Thorns-related art. What should I do?
A. You should join thornsrpg! It's our dA group. If you become a contributor, you can submit Thorns-related work to our featured gallery. It doesn't even have to be canon, just related to the world in some way.

Prints

Q. Do you offer prints?
A. Only on some of my work; if I have not offered a print of something there is a reason. It isn't really worth it to me since I make more money on a single cheapo commission than I would if I sold ten prints.

Q. Can you send me a print if I commission an image?
A. I don't have the technology to do that right now. I could run into Kinkos and get a print for you, but they won't be great quality and it's kind of a waste of time when you could just do the same thing yourself. If you really want a print I am willing to upload any commissioned image full-size to dA and make a print of it for you to purchase.

Q. Can I print your work for myself?
A. All the stuff on here is really low resolution, so if you print larger than the picture it'll look blurry, but you're free to print out a copy for personal use. But if you're making money, it's illegal, so...don't do that.

Use

Q. Can I crop your work to make avatars/forum signatures?
A. I've given up trying to stop people doing this without asking permission, so if you're going to take my pictures, please at least link back to this site or my personal site (alex-and-ra.com) and give proper credit. This is good internet karma.

Q. Can I use your picture on my website?
A. The only time this is ok is if you're being UNUSUALLY awesome and writing a blog entry where you plug artists...if it's working to promote me, I can't exactly complain. But please don't take my art for personal use.

Q. Can I use a part of your images for use in my own work, or trace your images?
A. No.

Q. Can I reference your images for my LEARNINGS?
A. You're welcome to, but it won't do you any good. Try drawing from life or find an anatomy book to practice. Copying someone's stylized art is only going to screw you up...until you know the basics you'll just be learning the wrong way to draw things. If your work is heavily inspired by something I've done (ie, based on it) please at least pop a credit link into the description.

"Services"

Q. Will you do a tutorial on X?
A. I have done a lot of tutorials already; they're up on my personal site and my deviantART gallery. If a subject isn't covered it's probably because I don't feel like I understand it well enough to give advice on it, or am already planning on doing a tutorial on it in the future; I try to cover topics that haven't been done a million times. If you can't find what you're looking for, try searching this site's tutorials section for good ones (but a word of caution - make sure the artist knows what the heck they're talking about before taking their advice).

Q. Will you give me a critique on my work?
A. Please at least get to know me vaguely before making requests like this. I wish I had time to help everyone but I can't just spend 15 minutes on everyone who asks. Sorry! (And please, don't ask if you're just looking for compliments...)

Q. Can I approach you for questions and stuff?
A. NO I AM A MONSTER  :iconraegplz: (yes you can, I don't bite)

Q. [insert some deviantart admin question here]
A. I'm just a senior, not staff! I can't answer any questions, sorry =p

Awkward

Q. Do you do requests?
A. Don't have the time, sorry!

Q. Do you do art trades?
A. Not usually, and only with my friends (and Thorns buddies).

Q. Will you do a link exchange?
A. No, those are textbook awkward. If I like your work, I will link to you and not expect anything back. If you're my buddy on here and I haven't seen your personal site, feel free to note me with a link, I wouldn't mind looking at it.

Q. WHY HAVEN'T YOU ADDED ME TO YOUR WALL OF FRIENDS :iconimsorryplz:
A. I haven't updated it in like a trillion years, sorry!

Q. Will you plug my _____ on your journal?
A. Er. I don't like when people try to use me.

My Work

Q. What programs/tools do you use?
A. I'm using Photoshop CS3 and an Intuos 4 tablet for the majority of my work, though I sometimes incorporate traditional textures, many of which I scan in myself. I do a lot of watercolor and pencil work but it doesn't usually get uploaded here; look for that stuff on my personal site.

Q. How long does it take you to finish a piece?
A. It varies...big paintings, usually 10-20 hours, medium works around 5-6 hours, "speedpaints" and quick works around 1-2 hours. The longest I have ever spent on a painting was like 40 hours and it turned out crap so I never uploaded it here.

Q. Your gallery looks like it was done by like 4 different people.
A. I know, I work in a bunch of different styles. I might settle on just one style one day, but I doubt it'll happen anytime soon. I'd get bored.

Q. Were you inspired by _________ [insert artist]?
A. Probably.

Q. Will you make a Spocktopus shirt?
A. Due to copyright reasons, if I were to ever make such a shirt (for example, if I was currently refining the lineart and preparing to upload such an image to cafepress, hypothetically), it would be sans-Star Trek logo, so you'd have to be utterly insane to buy it. INSANE.

Q. Will you be continuing Madland or Blue?
A. I'm actually working on a re-imagining of Madland right now; I hope to start it up as a webcomic sometime in 2010. You can check out my progress here - Operation Splitfoot. As for Blue, I'm not sure. I'd like to at some point in the future, but my other projects are taking precedence right now.

Commissions

Q. Do you do commissions?
A. Click here for information on commissions: thundercake.deviantart.com/jou…

Q. I commissioned you for this image. Can I put it on a shirt?
A. You can use any commissioned image for personal use. Commercial use is going to require a contract. If you've commissioned me in the past and want to use the previously commissioned image for something commercial, you need to contact me and we'll work out an agreement. I hate to get all legal on you, but that's the world we live in.

Q. I hired you for a commission and haven't gotten it yet.
A. Send me a note to check on the status of your commission. If you need something by a certain time, please always give me a date! Otherwise, completion times may vary, but I try to get everything out in a timely fashion.

Miscellaneous

Q. Ewwwww, you keep rats as pets?
A. Yes, and they're cleaner than any cat or dog I've ever owned, intelligent, cuddly, affectionate, adorable and they look hilarious when they eat things. Rats are the best. RAT POWER

Q. Why do you bother with a personal site? No one visits it.
A. -sniffle- Well...I'm still hoping that people are interested in my doodles and occasional tutorials, so I'm uploading some new unique content there. GUILT TRIP :iconforscience:

Q. I don't agree with/am offended by something you said in one of your many rambling-ass journals. Should I a) harass you about it continually and unwatch you, b) leave quietly and/or unwatch you, c) continue to watch you and argue with you at length until you change your mind, or d) talk crap about you behind your back?
A. Choose B, choose B!!

Q. What school did you attend/are attending?
A. I have been at Virginia Commonwealth University (school of communication arts, illustration major) since 2005 and I'm set to graduate in spring 2010.

Q. Uh...Imaginary Friends contest??
A. Yeah, uh, about that...(this question should be in "awkward")...I kinda dropped the ball there, I'm sorry. Never promise stuff you can't come through for, that's my lesson for the year 2008.
