Eagle Fairy

This is one-half of a school assignment. Technically it's due several weeks from today, but I could not bear to go another second without starting it, as I had much success with the sketches.

The assignment (and I beg you to keep in mind - this is art school) consisted of my teacher piling Yu-Gi-Oh cards on a table and instructing us to take four; we then had to pair them off, and combine the cards with our minds to create two entirely new mystical beings, which would then be transferred to fresh cards.

I know my approach is somewhat different from the cards' fantasy art (*shudder*) but I hope it will be well-received, as those feathers were a delightful bitch to paint individually.

I painted this thing entirely in a Moes restaurant over the duration of two nights (that's 16 hours) and got a lot of comments like "wings don't look like that! feathers don't look like that! why isn't she pretty? why does she have boob feathers??", valid comments all. I deliberately went a less literal route with the wings and hair, er, feathers, but this was difficult to explain to the 10 or 11 middle schoolers with burritos hanging out of their mouths. So I had plenty of self-doubt, and I think it comes through a little.

I really like painting at Moes, the audience aside...it's somehow relaxing, even if they do play terrible music. Without the distraction of the internet, I tend to get a lot more work done. Plus, I get free tortilla chips.
